Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is the most important traditional holiday in China. It is celebrated by Chinese people all over the world, including young students like me.
As a primary school student, I look forward to Spring Festival every year because it means that I can have a long break from school. During the holiday, I get to spend time with my family and enjoy various festive activities.
One of the highlights of Chinese New Year is the reunion dinner. On New Year's Eve, my whole family gathers around the table to have a special meal together. We eat delicious food such as dumplings, fish, and rice cakes. We also exchange good wishes and give each other red envelopes filled with money, which brings us good luck.
During the Spring Festival, we also decorate our house with red lanterns, couplets, and paper-cuttings. We believe that decorating our house in red can scare away evil spirits and bring us good fortune for the upcoming year. I always help my parents with the decorations and it's really fun.
Another activity I enjoy during Chinese New Year is watching the dragon and lion dances. The colorful dragons and lions parade through the streets, accompanied by loud music and firecrackers. It's exciting to see the performers move in sync and make the dragon or lion come to life. This traditional dance brings joy and prosperity to the community.
In addition, I love to set off fireworks with my family and friends. The bright lights and loud sounds filling the night sky create a festive atmosphere. Fireworks symbolize driving away the evil spirits and welcoming a prosperous new year.
Chinese New Year is a time for family, tradition, and celebration. It's a time to pay respect to our ancestors, visit relatives, and enjoy delicious food. I feel lucky to be part of this rich cultural heritage and I always look forward to celebrating Spring Festival with my loved ones.
